Your First Visit

Once you enter the office of Gabrielle Czaja PT, you will find yourself in an environment that is dedicated to helping you live the life you love. To begin, you and Gabrielle will discuss your medical history and she will evaluate your strength, flexibility and movement patterns to determine the source of your pain and current problem.
Moving Forward

Gabrielle will develop a comprehensive plan to decrease pain and restore function to the injured joint or body region. Her care supports long-term healing and includes:

  • Ongoing re-evaluation to map progress and adjust treatment as necessary
  • Support and guidance throughout the rehabilitation process so you can resume your full activity level without re-injury
  • Education so you can keep yourself and your body strong, healthy and well

Getting off to the right start is so important in many aspects of life and physical therapy is no exception. That’s why Gabrielle takes extra time during the first session to really learn about you and what has brought you in. And while change can take time, it’s worth it.

Gabrielle’s focus on rebuilding your best self through physical therapy and Alexander Technique has helped hundreds of people get back to doing what they love.

Answers to Questions about Your First Visit

Are there forms I should fill out for my first visit?
Yes, you will find them below.
Do I need to be referred by my doctor?
The law in Washington DC allows you to see a physical therapist for evaluation and treatment without a physician’s referral or prescription. While most health insurance companies do not require a physician’s referral, some may; please check with your insurance provider.
Will My Insurance Pay for Alexander Technique lessons?
While Alexander Technique lessons are often therapeutic, the Alexander Technique, an established body of knowledge, is a unique form of movement and breathing re-education, not a physical therapy procedure. Please discuss with Gabrielle whether lessons may be covered.
How long is each visit?
An initial visit for evaluation and lesson or treatment is approximately 75 minutes. Subsequent visits are approximately 50 minutes.
What should I wear?
Please have available loose, comfortable clothing and refrain from wearing any perfume or fragrance to your appointment.
What records do I need to bring with me?
If your doctor has given you a referral, please bring that with you, along with any written reports of any relevant x-rays, MRIs, or any other tests.
